Use Search Web Engines
Cyber criminals are using popular search engines like Google and Yahoo to lure
unsuspecting victims
to their malicious web sites. They are using both "sponsored" and "natural" results. To use
the "sponsored" results, they simply purchase ads from Google/Yahoo. To make their web sites show up in
the "natural" results they have resorted to a number of tricks to increase their malicious web sites' search
engine ranking.
Data Breaches Continue
At an Alarming Rate
Almost every day brings news on new data breaches. More than 10 breaches were announced in just the first 10 days
of March by the Open Security Foundation's Data Loss Database. The methods of the breaches include lost/stolen
laptop computers, hacked web sites, lost/stolen media such as tapes, etc., lost/stolen mail, and even careless posting
of personal information on a public web site.
This steady stream of loss of personal imformation illustrates the importance of the new Massachusetts regulation 201 CMR 17.00,
which is now scheduled to go into effect on Jan 1, 2010.
